2 insurgent groups join peace process

MAIMANA (PANinfo-icon): Two groups involving 45 fighters have joined the peace process in northern Balkh and Faryab provinces, the National Security Directorate (NDSinfo-icon) said on Friday.

Turning in their weapons to security personnel, the groups’ surrender would help improve security in the provinces, a statement from the intelligence department said.

It added the surrendering fighters had sought work opportunities and implementation of reconstructioninfo-icon projects in their areas.

Since the creation of the High Peace Councilinfo-icon in 2010, more than 6,000 militants have joined the peace process and 4,500 of them have been provided work opportunities.
