KABUL): The National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday directed the Ministry of Finance to release $100 million (5.5 billion afghanis) to the Ministry of Defence for purchasing five cargo aircrafts, the Presidential Palace said.
At the NSC meeting under President Hamid Karzai chairmanship, Defence Minister Gen. Bismillah Muhammadi requested the council to approve a budget for his ministry to buy five transport airbuses.
After his request, the council directed the Ministry of Finance to release $100 million from the government budget for the purpose, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
During the meeting, National Security Advisor to President, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, interior and defence ministers and acting National Directorate of Security director presented their reports regarding the transfer of US military bases to Afghan forces control.
Interior Minister Mujtaba Patang told the meeting a unit had been established to keep security for judges and prosecutors. He said more measures were being taken to strengthen security for judges and prosecutors.
Wolesi Jirga member Faridoon Khan Momand breifed the meeting on problems facing residents of the Goshta district in Nangarhar.
