KABUL, but expressed its reservations over some changes brought to the law.

Referred to the lower house in December 2012, the law, having 17 chapters and 67 articles, was approved on Tuesday with some further amendments .

FEFA chief Jandad Spinghar, calling approval of the law a great achievement, said civil society and political groups had been demanding a joint electorate regime, but the idea was rejected by the house.

The Wolesi Jirga has approved two important articles of the election law concerning the Single Non-Transferable Vote (SNTV) system and ballot counts at voting centres.

Spinghar said the joint electoral regime would have enabled political parties to get their candidates elected to the parliament.

A leader of the Right and Justice party, Abbas Noyan, also said the joint electoral regime should have been approved in order to prevent votes from being wasted.

National Coalition spokesman Sardar Mohammad Rahimi also supported the revival of joint electoral system.
