KABUL): As many as 553 militants were killed and 581 others detained during security operations over the past one month, when 106 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Sunday.
An MoD statement said more than 2,000 military operations were conducted during the period, inflicting casualties on more than 1,000 insurgents in different parts of the country.
The statement quoted Gen. Zahir Azimi, the ministry spokesman, as saying more than 240 heavy and light weapons, 150 artillery shells, 16470 bullets, 10 bullet-proof jackets, 1590 kilograms of explosives, 500kg of drugs, 80 cars and motorbikes, 25 walkie-talkies and 850 bombs had been seized by Afghan forces during the past one month.
