HERAT CITY (PANinfo-icon): A primary court in western Herat province has sentenced a young man to death for killing his mother last year, an official said on Friday.

Judge Ghulam Rasul Mansoor told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mohammad Salim, 22, had been convicted on the charge of matricide.

He said the convict could challenge the capital punishment in the appellate court. Under the relevant law, if his appeal is turned down, the convict could move the Supreme Court.

Elsewhere in the province, a man killed his wife with a sharp tool in Adraskan district, Prosecutor Gul Ahmad Nazari said, linking the incident to domestic tension.
