JALALABAD (PAN): Eleven employees of the Mine Detection Centre (MDC) have been released a month after they were abducted in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.
The deminers, who were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Achin district, were freed as a result of mediation from tribal elders without any money deal, MDC Director Khudai Nazar Shinwari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said no deal had been sealed with the kidnappers, whose motive and identity were yet to be known. The men were held over the past 27 days in the Tirah Valley of the Khyber tribal region in Pakistan.
The captors handed them to tribal elders, an employee of the organisation said on condition of anonymity.
The deminers were freed due to efforts by the Afghan security personnel, said the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai.
