TIRINKOT (PAN’s atrocities.

Dozens of tribal elders, spiritual leaders and youth, coming all the way from Kotwal, Dejawz and Shah Mansoor areas participated in an anti-Taliban gathering held in Tirinkot, the provincial capital.

They lost their family members and loved ones to cruel actions of the Taliban, but now they wanted a permanent resolution to the problem, said Agha Jan, a tribal elder.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News they had decided not to allow the Taliban to create problems for the people in their areas.

Another elder Fazal Ahmad said they had been victimised by different parties and groups over the past 35 years. “We will no more let anyone to be a headache for our families,” he added.

“People are not only tired of the unruly behavior of Taliban, but they are fed up with night raids by foreign troops,” another participant, Sher Agha, said.

He recalled foreign troops last month killed two civilians who had no links with insurgents.

Deputy police chief Sadat Khan praised elders and scholars for their decision to resist the Taliban, saying police would extend all possible support in this regard.
