Imam gunned down in Faryab

MAIMANA (PAN): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a prayer leader in the Pashtunkot district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Friday.

Maulvi soon after he offered evening prayers on Thursday, the district chief said.

Abdul Qadeer Qadiri, speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, blamed the Taliban for the murder.  However, there was no immediate comment from the insurgents.

The district crime branch chief, Col. Mohammad Aman, believed the cleric might have been killed because of his support for the government.
