FARAH CITY (PAN): A police officer has surrendered with a tank and weapons to the government’s armed opponents in western Farah province, the deputy governor said on Friday.

Mohammad Younus Rasuli told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mohammad Yaqub joined the Taliban in the Bala Baluk district of the province last night.

Yaqub also turned a tank, a machine gun, a Kalashnikov, a pistol and some ammunition over to the insurgents, the deputy governor said.
A resident of Shiwan village, Ghulam Sakhi, said the police officer had handed to Taliban a pick-up and seven Kalashnikov assault rifles.
