FAIZABAD (PANinfo-icon): Police on Tuesday arrested five individuals, including a foreigner, on charges of planning suicide attacks in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said.

The men were detained from a home in Faizabad, the provincial capital, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Maroof Rasikh, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the detainees included a Kazakh national, who had a suicide vest strapped to his body. The remaining four belong to Badakhshan.

“They recently came from North Waziristan (Pakistaninfo-icon) and wanted to plan suicide attacks against government officials,” he said, adding some documents, a map and ammunitions had been discovered from the detainees.

Four months ago, a Kazakh member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan was detained with sensitive documents and equipment in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of Kunduz province.
