Work on key road launched; newly-built mosque opens

JALALABAD (PAN): Construction work on the Chaparhar-Pachir Agam road was launched on Saturday in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said.

The 7.7 kilometre long, seven metres wide and six centimeters thick road is estimated to cost 95 million afghanis, the public works director of, Eng. Gul Rassoul Faqiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Funded by the Ministry of Public Works, the road is expected to be complete over next six months and it would benefit thousands of families living in the two districts.

The Chaparhar district chief, Mohammad Siddique Daulatzai, said the road’s construction would enable commuters to have a trouble-free journey and result into decreased fare.

Separately, a newly-constructed building for a mosque plus seminary was inaugurated in Kama district on Friday.

The inaugural ceremony for the Akhond Baba Madarassa was attended by a number of religious scholars and government representatives from Kabul.

The two-storey cost $500,000 and the mosque has capacity to accommodate 5000 worshippers at a time, the Hajj Fazlullah, said.
