GARDEZ (PAN officials on Sunday said buildings for 69 schools in different parts of southeastern Paktia province would be constructed this year.
The World Bank would provide funds for the construction of 41 buildings, the Ministry of Education for 12 buildings, the UNICEF for 12 and the Indian government for four, according to Paktia’s deputy education director, Mohammad Nasir Hikmat.
Hikmat told Pajhwok Afghan News the new structures would help accommodate more students by overcoming the space problem. He, however, said there were many other schools in the province which lacked buildings of their own. Of the total 339 schools in Paktia, 169 have no building.
“We study under tents. This problem will end once our school gets a building,” said Imran, a student at the Abdul Hai Gardezi High School.
