KABUL): Five would-be suicide bombers affiliated with the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) have been arrested in northeastern Kunduz province, the spy service said on Monday.

The detainees belonged the IMU terror groups and wanted to carry out suicide attacks in Kunduz, but intelligence officials arrested them with suicide vests, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.

“The terrorists planned to carry out two suicide attacks — one attack was to be carried out among people and the second after rescuers arrive at the site of the first attack,” the statement said, but has no information about the location where the attacks were to be carried out.

The NDS statement said during initial investigation, the detainees said they had received two months military and suicide bombing training at the Tahir Yuldashev training centre in Pakistan’s north Waziristan tribal region before executing the suicide attacks in Kunduz province.
