Jun 18, 2013 - 16:16

KANDAHAR CITY (PANinfo-icon): A NATOinfo-icon drone has crashed in the Maroof district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Tuesday.

The unmanned aerial vehicle went down in the Kabuli area near the border with Zabul province on Monday due to a technical problem, the governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the drone crashed into mountains where no insurgent activity had been observed.

But the Talibaninfo-icon claimed to have downed the drone.

The Kandahar governor’s office said in a statement the mini drone crashed in Malayano and Kabuli areas of Maroof district near the border with Zabul.

Based on primary investigation, there were no insurgent activities witnessed in the area, the statement said, adding no civilian casualties or financial losses had been reported from the incident.
