Some countries yet to pay amounts pledged in Tokyo

KABUL): Senior officials on Tuesday reviewed progress so far made on the Tokyo Mutual Accountability Framework during a meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Finance presented its annual report for 2012 titled “Mutual Accountability Framework,” the foreign ministry said in a statement,

In its report, the finance ministry explained and described its operational plans for strengthening democracy and ensuring fair elections, good governance, rule of law, human rights, and sustainable development, the statement said.

The Finance Ministry said according to the commitments held out at the Tokyo Conference, some countries had not paid so far funding amounts they had pledged to channel through the Afghan budget.

It said the international community had committed id=”mce_marker”6 billion at the July 2012 conference for the period until 2015 and financial support until 2017.

It has been also promised to spend 50 percent of the international community aid through the Afghan national budget and 80 percent of the aid in alignment with Afghan national priority programs.

At the meeting, emphasis was placed on the Afghan government’s efforts at holding free and transparent elections, fighting administrative corruption, and ensuring women’s rights.
