KABUL): The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on Thursday strongly condemned an attack on Jawzjan governor by gunmen loyal to Uzbek warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Armed men belonging to Dostum attacked Mohammad Alam Saee’ house but fortunately it was pushed backed by gaurds at the Governor’s House, an IDLG statement said.
“No one has the right to challenge the sovereignty of central government. The central government won’t tolerate any chaos that can lead to anarchy and feud,” the statement said.
It said the raid was aimed to force the governor into advocating the political position of Dostum and adopting his orders instead of the central government.
“After the failed attack, some Dostum’s entourages staged a protest against the governor, calling for his dismissal. The IDLG condemns the attack and supports Governor Mohammad Alam Saee,” it added.
It praised Saee as one of energetic governors, saying his efforts made the local governance transparent and accountable and brought the government and the people closer.
The statement said Saee was a representative of President Hamid Karzai and the leader of local government in Jawzjan.
