ISLAMABAD (PAN): An Afghan diplomat was shot injured by unidentified gunmen in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday.

The Afghan Embassy spokesperson, Shams Zardasht, said Naqibullah Ibrahimkhel, third secretary and in charge of education and student affairs in the embassy, received a bullet wound in his leg when the gunmen fired at him.

Ibrahimkhel was returning from a marketplace in F-10 sector of the city when came under attack, Zardasht added.

He was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment. Doctors have described his condition as stable.

Zardasht said that the Director General Afghan Desk at the foreign ministry, Tipu Usman, visited the injured diplomat at PIMS and called for an investigation.

Afghan ambassador Umar Daudzai told reporters at PIMS that the Pakistani government should ensure security of all Afghan diplomats and embassy staff.

Police said Ibrahimkhel was shot injured after he resisted a robbery attempt by unknown individuals.
