KABUL Research Educational (AfgRE) Centre at the Kabul University on Tuesday, five public-sector universities were connected to regional and international fibre optic networks.

Last year, an agreement for executing the project was signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information and Technology and the Ministry of Higher Education.

As a result of the project, the Kabul University, Medical and Literature Faculties, Nangarhar and Balkh Universities were connected with the fibre optic network.

The Ministry of Higher Education said currently the AfgRE network was connected with the TEIN4 of Asia and GEANT of Europe, which help Afghan students improve their knowledge and bring positive changes to educational institutions.

Minister Obaidullah Obaid inaugurated the network, calling it an important step toward enhancing the educational levels of students and lecturers. Previously, the Kabul University lacked such a system.
