ISLAMABAD (PAN): Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday phoned President Hamid Karzai and invited him to visit Islamabad for talks on issues of mutual interests.

The state-owned Radio Pakistan said the Afghan leader had accepted Sharif’s invitation after discussing bilateral relations and regional situation.

Local media reported that the two leaders also discussed the Taliban’s political office in Doha and agreed to work together for bringing about lasting peace to the region.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Palace in Kabul confirmed the telephonic conversation, saying that Karzai would travel to Islamabad at an appropriate time.

The telephonic contact came hours after US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan James Dobbins arrived in Islamabad.

Three hours before the contract, Dobbins met Nawaz at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.

Dobbins and Nawaz discussed Afghanistan, the withdrawal of NATO troops by the end of 2014, Taliban’s Doha office and other issues of mutual interest.
