Jamiat Party appoints interim board

KABUL Party decided on Monday to nominate an independent candidate for the next presidential election.

At a meeting, High Peace Council Chairman Salahuddin Rabbani, also the son of Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani was appointed as provisional leader of the party.

Former vice-president Ahmad Zia Massoud and Kalimullah Naqibi were named as Jamiat’s deputy leaders and Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor as executive director.

Wasil Noor Mohmand was appointed as secretary, Abdul Sattar Murad as the head of political committee and Abdul Shakoor Waqif Hakimi as party spokesman.

Election of the provisional board was a big achievement and it would prepare a new strategy for the party, Rabbani said. “Jamiat-i-Islami is a leading party having members in different provinces of Afghanistan. We will participate in the elections.”
