Probables for ICC, ACC Cups named

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Afghanistaninfo-icon Cricket Board on Wednesday announced 18 probables for a four-day match against Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in August and the ACC Emerging Teams Cup later in the same month.

A 15-memnber final squad will be selected among the probables at the end of a training camp that will start on July 15 in Kabul.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad told a news conference in Kabul both events were being played next month.

He said the national side had been picked by the board’s selection committee on the basis of their performance in domestic cricket, particularly in the Etisalat Sixes tournament that featured best teams from the country’s five zones.

Murad hoped Afghanistan would be keen to put up a better show like they did in the past and would be able to bring home laurels.

The national team will leave for Namibia in first week of August to play a four day match as part of the ICC Intercontinental Cup’s sixth edition.

Afghanistan, who finished top two in the ICC's WCL Championship table in March, will also play two one-day internationals against Namibia as part of the ICC Worldinfo-icon Cricket League that will run parallel with the world class cricket.

The intercontinental cup also involves Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, the UAE, Canada, Kenya and Holland.

ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the national side would leave for Singapore to take part in the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup after playing their matches in Namibia.

Beginning August 17, the Emerging Teams Cup that will last until August 25 featuresinfo-icon eight best Asian teams divided into two groups.

Afghanistan are placed with India, Pakistaninfo-icon and Nepal in Group A. Group B includes Sari Lanka, Bangladesh, the UAE and Singapore.

The probables are: Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Nawroz Mangal, Karim Sadiq, Javed Ahmadi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Samiullah Shinwari, Asghar Stanikzai, Rahmat Shah, Mohibullah Oryakhel, Gulbadin Naib, Mirwais Ashraf, Hamza Hotak, Dawlat Zadran, Izzatullah Dawlatzai, Hamid Hassan, Shahpur Zadran and Syed Ahmad Sherzad.
