HERAT CITY (PAN): Seventeen people were killed on Tuesday when a motorised rickshaw exploded in the Obe district of western Herat province, security officials said.

The incident took place at around 5am in Taj area, killing at least 16 people and injuring several others, the police spokesman, Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

But the district police chief, Sher Agha, said all victims were members of the nomadic Kuchi tribe. He had no other details regarding the incident.

Col. Rauf said the dead included a dozen women, a man and four children. Five children, a woman and a man were wounded. He said the victims were on their way to Herat City.
