KABUL): British Army Lt. Gen. John G. Lorimer on Tuesday assumed the position of International Security Assistance Force’s deputy commander, replacing his compatriot Lt. Gen. Nick P. Carter.
Carter, who held the slot from October 10, 2012 to July 9, 2013, is returning to the UK where he will take over as commander of Land Forces, a statement from the NATO-led force said.
“As ever I leave Afghanistan with mixed feelings, with a spring in my step and a clear sense of optimism, but regret too for the many friends of all nations that I leave behind,” said Lt. Gen. Carter.
Lt. Gen. Lorimer commanded the UK Task Force in Helmand in 2007. He commanded 3(UK) Division from June 2011 to April 2013, with the key responsibility of training British brigades for operations in Afghanistan.
“I am delighted to take up the appointment of deputy commander International Security Assistance Force. This is a vital time in the campaign, so I look forward to working closely with our Afghan partners and the men and women,” said Lorimer.
