KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Thursday promised land plots for families of victims of a motorised rickshaw explosion in western Herat province.
Nineteen people were killed during the blast in the Taj area of Obe district on Tuesday. A dozen women, a man and six children were among the fatalities.
Five children, a woman and a man were wounded in the incident. All victims were members of a nomadic Kuchi tribe and were on their way to Herat City.
President Karzai spoke over the telephone with heads of bereaved families, offered condolences and promised all possible assistance to them.
According to a statement from the Presidential Palace, Karzai promised the family patriarchs they would be allotted land plots in addition to cash support. A number of members of the families would be sent to Baitullah for Haj.
The president directed Governor Fazlullah Wahidi to help the victims as soon as possible. Cash support and assistance from Red Crescent Society, provincial council, municipality and traders had been delivered to the affected families, the governor said.
