Gold, fuel prices up in Kabul

KABUL): Gold, fuel and gas prices increased while other daily-use commodity rates stayed unchanged during the outgoing week in Kabul, retailers said on Thursday.

Abdul Basir, a jeweller in the Lycee-i-Maryam neighborhood, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one gram of Arabian gold rose from 2,000afs ($36) to 2,100afs and the Iranian variety from 1,700afs to 1,750 afs.

Similarly, the rate of one litre of diesel edged up from last week’s price of 62afs to 63afs, and the same quantity of petrol rose from 56 afs to 57 afs, said a filling station worker in the Wazirabad area, Abdul Hadi.

Mohammad Sharif, a retailer, said he sold a kilogram of gas for 50 afs against its last week price at 47afs.

Food prices saw no change, as a 50-kilogram bag of Pakistani sugar sold for 1,700afs, a 49-kg sack of Pakistani flour for 1200afs and 24-kg bag of rice at 1,700afs.

The rates remained the same as last week’s, said Haji Fazl Rahman, the Food Traders’ Union head.

A 5-kg tin of Momin ghee cost 400afs, a kilo of African black tea 210afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea 175afs, he added.

But wholesale prices varied from retail rates in some parts of the city. Khan Ali, a shopkeeper in the Karta-i-Seh locality, sold a 24-kg sack of Pakistani rice for 2,200afs and 50-kg of sugar for 2,000afs, 49 kilograms of flour for 1,280afs.

He sold a 5-kg tin of ghee for 460afs, a kilo of black African team for 270afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 220afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of a US dollar was 56.95afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 562afs.

Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 56.60afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 5,59afs.
