WASHINGTON (PAN.

“The US welcomes Kazakhstan’s leadership role in supporting security in Afghanistan and the region,” said a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov’s visit.

Kazakhstan’s assistance to the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and contribution to the Istanbul Process was also praised by the Obama administration.

During his three-day trip to the US, Idrissov met Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Trade Representative Michael Froman and the Deputy Secretary of State William Burns.

“The United States values Kazakhstan’s USD50 million scholarship program to educate one thousand Afghan students in Kazakhstan’s universities,” the joint statement added.

The US welcomed Kazakhstan’s economic connectivity efforts, in particular, its investments in regional infrastructure such as the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan railroad and the Caspian seaport of Aktau.

The US and Kazakhstan agreed to continue to work closely together to support stability, peace, and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region.

Officials from both sides highlighted the robust and growing bilateral ties between Kazakhstan and the US and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening their strategic partnership.
