WASHINGTON (PAN, two top US lawmakers on Wednesday urged President Barack Obama to scrap the order.

“American taxpayer dollars should not be provided to a Russian state-owned corporation that is complicit in the murder of thousands of innocent Syrian men, women, and children,” said Senator Mark Begich and Senator Kelly Ayotte.

In their letter to President Barack Obama, the senators called for the Pentagon to sever all ties with Rosoboronexport, the Russian state-owned corporation.

Rosoboronexport has supplied the Assad regime with guns, grenades, tank parts, attack aircraft, anti-ship cruise missiles and air defense missiles. It is now planning to sell advanced anti-aircraft 300 weapons systems.

The senators noted that when transferred, these weapons would challenge American interests in the region, including the safety of Israel.

Begich and Ayotte requested the Pentagon cancel all orders with Rosoboronexport and that the US imposed sanctions on any company that provided weapons to the Assad regime.
