Jul 12, 2013 - 21:11

HERAT CITY (PAN): Three Afghan employees, including a woman, of a Norwegian aid organisation were freed in western Herat province on Friday, an official said.

The Norwegian Refugees Council (NRC) workers had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday (July 3) the Guzra district of the province, bordering Iran.

A security official, who did not want to be named, said the NRC employees had travelled to a remote village of the district without having any security guard.

Police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News no deal had been struck with the captors. The captives were found in mountains of Ghoryan district and reunited with their families.

An independent humanitarian and reconstructioninfo-icon organisation, NRC has been active in Afghanistaninfo-icon since 2002, providing protection and assistance to refugees and internally-displaced people.
