Rebel commanders among 8 killed in Kunduz

KUNDUZ CITY (PANinfo-icon): One foreigner was among eight Talibaninfo-icon fighters killed during a clash with police in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Friday.

One citizen of Tajikistan was the fatalities that resulted from the three-hour clash in the Qarghan Tepa village of the district late on Thursday, said the provincial police spokesman.

Syed Sarwar Hussaini said six militants were wounded in the gunbattle that was triggered by a Taliban assault on a police patrol in the area. The dead included three commanders Haqmal, Mohammad Rahim and Bashir Ahmad Tajiki.

He added six policemen and a guerrilla were wounded in the clash. There was no immediate word from the Taliban regarding the firefight that was also verified by residents.
