Pakistani militants among 17 killed

KABUL and three civilians have been killed over the past 24 hours in security incidents in different parts of the country, officials said on Saturday.

A dozen Pakistani militants were killed during an overnight clash triggered by attacks on police checkpoints in the Arghistan district of southern Kandahar province, the governor’s spokesman said.

Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News the rest of the insurgents fled back to Pakistan and crossed several security checkpoints across the border without any fear.

Separately, two bomb planters were killed as a result of an airstrike by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Panjwai district of the province.

Meanwhile, two boys lost their limbs in a roadside bombing in the Zangabad area of the district, a statement from the governor’s office said, blaming the Taliban for planting the explosive device.

Separately, a man and a woman were killed on Friday night when a mortar shell fired by militants landed in their house in the Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province, the governor’s spokesman, Zahir Bahand, said.

A statement from the police headquarters said the attackers managed to flee, but police arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.

Separately, a Mobile Telecommunication Company (MTN) booster was torched in the Kilagi area of the Dushi district of Baghlan province, said police officer, Col. Samar Gul.

Meanwhile, six robbers were caught looting a passenger bus on the Zaranj-Dilaram highway in the Chakhansor district of Nimroz, said the deputy police chief, Col. Wali Jan Sarhadi.
