LASHKARGAH (PAN): A training centre for nurses was inaugurated in southern Helmand province on Wednesday, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) said.

Helmand Governor Mohammad Naeem, the public health director and other governmental officials attended the inaugural ceremony for the two-storey building that accounted for 18 million afghanis.

Governor Naeem said: “This is a building having 16 rooms with toilets and bathrooms and all essential facilities. It was constructed in a year with financial support from the Provincial Reconstruction Team.”

Thirty-eight female nurses would graduate from the training centre every 30 months, he said, hoping the trained female health workers would help reduce mother and child mortality rates in the province.

Director of Public Health Enayatullah Ghafari said: “If cooperation from people increases, the quality of health services in Helmand will become better.”
