7 dead in bomb attack on ISI compound

ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Seven people, including two intelligence operatives, were killed in a string of explosions in Pakistaninfo-icon's southern province of Sindh on Wednesday evening, officials said.

Suspected insurgents crashed an explosives-laden vehicle into a local office of Pakistan's spy service in Sukkur city, wounding more than 40 people.

Director General of Rangers Maj. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar told reporters six back-to-back blasts rocked the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISIinfo-icon) office in Barrage Colony shortly after Iftarinfo-icon.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Javed Odho said the brazen assault triggered a shootout between security officials and the assailants. The powerful blasts caused major damage to the ISI office.

Around 10 gunmen have attacked the heavily-guarded compound, said Masood Bangash, the deputy superintendent of police. A Shiite  mosqueinfo-icon, the commissioner residence and Rangers’ headquarters are also located in the neighbourhood.
