KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Afghan Special Forces seized 30 parcels of opium as a result of an operation in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.

Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drugs destined for neighbouring Helmand province were recovered in Band-i-Taimur area.

A man has been held with weapons in connection with the smuggling attempt. A huge quantity of arms and opium were recovered from a pick-up, confirmed police spokesman Ziaur Rahman.

The detainee is currently under investigation, according to the police spokesman, who recalled three narcotics labs were recently destroyed in Band-i-Taimur.
