JALALABAD (PAN Bank was laid in Paron, the capital of eastern Nuristan province, on Wednesday.
At the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Governor Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News the project would cost 16 million afghanis (about $30,000).
Funded by the central bank, the two-storey building with 10 rooms would be constructed in 10 months, the governor said, hoping the project would resolve the bank’s problems.
“The central government has lately started paying greater attention to the province, where 25 reconstruction projects have been launched,” the official acknowledged.
But provincial council member Shams Aseelzai urged President Hamid Karzai to give Nuristan its due share in reconstruction schemes.
