Policeman among 5 killed Jawzjan

Jul 31, 2013 - 12:58

SHEBRGHAN (PANinfo-icon): Four militants and an Afghan Local Police (ALP) member were killed and two others wounded during a clash in the Darzab district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Wednesday.

The militants were killed during a clash with ALP personnel in Qatar Sum village on Tuesday night, the district chief, Rahmatullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Another militant was wounded, while two motorcycles and some weapons were seized, he said, adding the rebels' bodies remained at the scene. Police suffered no casualties.

A resident of the area, Abdul Shakoor, confirmed four insurgent deaths and said: “They were local Talibaninfo-icon. One of them, Jamal, was involved in forcibly taking Zakatinfo-icon and Ushr from our villagers.”

Without commenting on the incident, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said ALP commander Mirwais was killed and his bodyguard wounded during a clash on the outskirts of Shiberghan.

But police officer Abdul Manan Raufi said Mirwais was not an ALP commander.

He added both victims were members of the regular police force.
