MAIMANA (PAN): A district crime branch chief, an attorney and their driver were killed and five others wounded in an explosion in northwestern Faryab province on Thursday, an official said.
Mohammad Zahir, crime branch chief, and Abdul Rasul, attorney for Balcheragh district, were killed when the car they were traveling in struck a roadside bomb around 8am, the town’s administrative head said.
Hayatullah Faqiryar told Pajhwok Afghan News the officials were traveling to a village to investigate the killing of a woman by a local police commander. The woman was killed on Wednesday night.
Some ALP personnel were involved in planting the improvised explosive device, he believed. But ALP Commander Uzabig denied involvement and said the bomb had been planted by insurgents.
A resident of the area, requesting not to be named, said the woman was killed by a man who had murdered two people 10 days ago before joining the Taliban.
