JALALABAD (PAN): The father of Mohammad Nabi Issakhel, the national cricket team skipper, was freed on Saturday by his captors after two months and a half, Nangarhar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai said.
Haji Khubi, the father of Issakhel, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen some two-and-a-half months ago from the Saracha locality of Behsud district. “Khubi has been released by his captors and reunited with his family,” Sherzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He added security forces had detained two suspects in connection with Khubi’s kidnapping. Information from the detainees helped law-enforcers rescue the elderly figure.
“Maximum pressure was mounted on the kidnappers following the detention of their accomplices. This led to the man’s release. Neither we paid any ransom nor cut any underhand deal,” the governor insisted.
Haji Muhammad Amin, the elder brother of Issakhel, acknowledged his father had been released as a result of hectic efforts by government organs.
