US denounces assault on Indian consulate

KABUL): The United States has vehemently condemned Saturday’s deadly attack near the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.

The bomb-gun attack resulted in the death and injury of more than 20 innocent Afghans men, women and mostly children.

The attack again demonstrated the insurgents’ disregard for innocent civilian life in their campaign against a brighter future for Afghanistan, a statement from the US embassy said.

“We condemn in particular the insurgents’ killing of innocent children, especially deplorable during this holy month of Ramazan. We extend our deepest condolences to all Afghans affected by these senseless acts,” it added.

“The attack strengthens our resolve to continue our important work with our Afghan and international partners to build a secure, prosperous future for the people of Afghanistan.”
