JALALABAD (PAN threats and attacks on New Delhi’s interests in the war-torn country were plotted across the border.

Sihna expressed these views during his meeting with Governor Gul Agha Sherzai at the Governor’s House in Jalalabad, where the Indian consulate came under bomb-gun attack three days ago.

Nine Afghan civilians, including children, were killed and 26 others wounded during the attack. Several shops, houses and a mosque were damaged as a result of the bombing.

Without naming the country where the plots were hatched to attack Indian interests in Afghanistan, he said: “Problems in Afghanistan cannot be reduced as long as neighbours don’t bring a visible shift to their policy.”

Attacks like the one on the mission would not undermine Indo-Afghan ties, he remarked, saying terrorism had been plaguing the region over the last 30-years. Joint efforts were needed to counter the threat, he stressed.

He expressed optimism the Nangarhar government would step up efforts to identify the attackers and bring them to justice.

The Indian government equally shared the grief of those whose relatives were killed in the bombing, the envoy said, adding that the family of each deceased was given financial assistance of id=”mce_marker”0,000.

The ambassador provided cash assistance of $20,000 to the injured for their treatment. He also announced id=”mce_marker”0,000 for the reconstruction of the mosque damaged in the explosion.

Asked if Pakistan-Delhi ties, the diplomat replied: “Our relations are not new. India and Afghanistan were friends long before Pakistan’s creation.”
