JALALABAD (PAN): A bomb exploded on Tuesday at a busy square of Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, leaving one child dead and two others wounded.
One witness told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack targetted a police pickup that was passing through the crowded area, called Talashi Chowk.
“As the police pickup reached the square, all of a sudden a huge blast occurred,” witness Shahidullah said. Though the vehicle was partially damaged, the policemen inside escaped unhurt.
An 11-year-old child died on the spot and several others civilians were wounded, the witness added.
Dr. Humayoun Zahir, the Nangarhar Civil Hospital director, confirmed receiving one dead body and two injured people from the blast site.
No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, which came three days after nine civilians, including children, were killed in a bomb-gun assault near the Indian mission in the city.
