In his message, the envoy said throughout Ramadan have been fasting, illustrating their commitment to shared religious and cultural values, and respecting this time for reflection, patience and tolerance. However, he said the past 30 days saw Afghans experiencing violence and suffering.
“I sincerely hope that as families and friends around the country gather to celebrate this special occasion that they can do so in an environment free of bloodshed, suicide attacks, explosions and hatred, and, instead, do so in a spirit of peace, goodwill and harmony.”
He hoped the spirit of peace, goodwill and harmony at the heart of the religious occasion would also strengthen the national effort to find peace in Afghanistan.
“On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I wish all Afghans Eid Mubarak.”
