5 rebels, 2 Afghan troops killed in Herat incidents

HEART CITY (PANinfo-icon): Five insurgents and two Afghan soldiers have been killed during separate incidents in western Herat province, the NATOinfo-icon-led forces and an official said on Friday.

The five insurgents were killed and as many injured during an operation in the Shindand, where a local police officer was injured, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said in a statement.

There were no more casualties among Afghan forces and the injured ALP officer was shifted to a hospital in Shindand, the force said.

Shindand administrative head Lal Mohammad Omarzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation wrapped up on Friday was carried out by the Afghan commando unit in the Zirkoh area. He said seven others insurgents were detained and their weapons seized by the commandos.

In Torghondi area, two Afghan soldiers were killed on Thursday evening when they were ambushed by Talibaninfo-icon insurgents, an official said, requesting anonymity.
