GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Four policemen and three insurgents have been killed in separate incidents of violence in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Sunday.
A roadside bombing killed two policemen and injured three others in the Qayaq area of Jaghatu district early in the morning, the governor’s secretary said.
Nabi Jan told Pajhwok Afghan News the casualties occurred when a police pick-up struck the bomb during a patrol of the Taliban-infested area.
But resident Ali Mohammad said two civilians were also killed and a third injured in the explosion. He had no further details about the incident.
Elsewhere in the province, two policemen and three militants were killed during a clash in Zankhan district late on Saturday. The firefight was triggered by a rebel attack on police in Godal village, the district chief said.
Ahmad Zia Yaqubi added the Taliban also suffered casualties during the clash that lasted four hours. However, he stopped short of giving casualty figures for the fighters.
On the other hand, Nabi Jan said three rebels, including a commander, were killed in a subsequent operation by Afghan security forces in the area.
