BAMYAN CITY (PAN): Two foreign workers of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in central Bamyan province, an official said on Wednesday.

The men had travelled from Kabul to the Band-i-Amir dam in Bamyan, where they were kidnapped near the provincial capital late on Tuesday, the police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Brig. Gen. Abdur Razzaq Ilkhani said footprints of the kidnappers had been found and police were investigating the incident. The abductors were not Taliban, he said, without commenting on the identity of the gunmen.

But police spokesman Capt. Mohammad Hassan said the captives were a Canadian woman and a Pakistani man. The kidnappers torched one vehicle and thrashed the workers’ drivers. “An operation is underway to detain the captors.”
