40 insurgents killed in Kandahar operations

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Security officials in the southern Kandahar province on Thursday that 40 rebels had been killed, 24 detained and nine others wounded during operations in five districts.

The operations were conducted by Afghan National Army (ANA), intelligence and civil order police personnel in the Zherai, Panjwai, Khakrez, Shah Walikot and Mianishin districts.

Addressing a press conference in Kandahar, deputy police chief Rahmatullah Atrafi said 78 other suspected individual were detained during the operations.

He added 162 roadside bombs planted by insurgents, mostly in Khakrez district, were defused and some weapons and ammunitions seized by the security forces.

A Taliban hideout in Khakrez was destroyed, the deputy police chief said, adding 13 suspects involved in the criminal activities were also detained in Kandahar City and districts.
