Flour, fuel & gold prices up in Kabul

KABUL): Prices of flour, rice, fuel and gold edged up during the outgoing week in Kabul, where rates of other daily-use commodities stayed stable, market sources  said on Thursday.

The price of a 49-kg bag of Pakistani rice jumped from 1,23 to 1,2500afs due to a shortage of the staple commodity in the neighbouring country, the Food Traders’ Union head said.

Fazal Rahman told Pajhwok Afghan News a 49-kg bag of rice sold for 1,800afs, a 50-kg bag of sugar for 1,750afs, a 5-litre cane of Momin ghee for 400afs, a kg of Indonesian green tea for 175afs and the same quantity of African black tea for 210afs.

But wholesale prices varied from retail rates in some parts of the city. Khan Ali, a shopkeeper in the Karta-i-Seh locality, sold a 50-kg sack of Pakistani sugar for 1,950afs a 49-kg of flour for 1,280afs, 24-kg rice for 2,200afs, a 5-litre cane of Momin ghee for 460afs 49 kilograms, a kilo of black African team for 270afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 230afs.

A litre of petrol cost went up to 62afs from last week’s rate of 58afs while the same amount of diesel stayed unchanged at 63afs, said Abdul Hadi, a pump station manager in the Wazirabad area.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sharif, a gas dealer in Kolola Pushta area, sold a kg of liquefied gas for 47afs, same as last week’s rate.

Gold prices also increased, with one gram of Arabian gold going up 2,100afs to 2,150afs and the same amount of the Iranian variety from 1,750afs to 1,800afs, said Haji Hamid Saleh, a jeweller in the Lycee-i-Maryam neighborhood.

The exchange value of one US dollar rose from 56.65afs to 56.70 afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 548afs to 549afs, money exchanger Ahmad Shah said.
