BAMYAN CITY (PAN were inaugurated in central Bamyan province on Thursday, officials said.

The park has been built on 20 acres of land in front of the governor’s house in the Bamyan city, according to sponsors of the recreational area.

Marzia Arzo, the head of an NGO called Arzo, told Pajhwok Afghan News all citizens cold visit the public park, funded by Japan.

A women’s community centre, having a carpet-weaving hall, a kindergarten,  a warehouse and a bathroom, was also inaugurated in the Shash Pul area of Bamyan City.

Masooma, the Bamyan Women’s Development Council chief, said they had urged Arzo to build the centre to help local women resolve their problems.

W omen would be able to weave a variety of carpets in the hall, hold meetings and discuss their problems at the community centre, she added.

A carpet weaver, Nooria, hailed the community centre as a good source of income for her family and said women did not have such facilities at their homes.

The project worth $550,000 was funded by Japan and took one year to complete. Arzo is an independent NGO that has been active over the past eight years in areas of education, better livelihoods and healthcare in Bamyan.

Twelve residential buildings, costing $70,000 and funded by an American woman, had been constructed for displaced people in the city, Arzo said.

Governor Habiba Sarabi said the three welfare projects; especially the park and the community centre, would provided excellent facilities for locals.
