GARDEZ (PAN): Half a dozen bullet-riddled bodies have been found in the Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province, officials said on Tuesday.

Deputy Governor Abdul Hai Sahi told Pajhwok Afghan News the corpses were recovered in Guldadkhel area, but it remained unclear who had killed the individuals and why.

Sahi said four of the dead hailed from central Logar province, one from Kabul and another from Paktia. They were kidnapped before being shot dead.

An Afghan Red Crescent Society official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bodies had been evacuated to Gardez. He said the victims were young and had been shot in the backs, with their hand tied.

In western Herat province, six kidnapped National Solidarity Programme officials were found dead in Gulran district on Monday night.
