LASHKARKAG (PAN): A bomb attack, targetting a convoy of foreign forces, killed three civilians and wounded 15 others in southern Helmand province on Wednesday noon, officials said.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast happened when an ISAF convoy was passing through Lashkargah, the provincial capital.
He had no information about whether or not the NATO-led soldiers had suffered any casualties in the attack. The spokesman said four vehicles and motorised rickshaw were also damaged by the explosion.
Three bodies and 15 wounded people were evacuated from the blast site to the Emergency Hospital, a doctor said. The injured included seven children and an Afghan intelligence operative.
Resident Jan Agha said the explosion had occurred in a crowded area near the police headquarters and the municipality office in the provincial capital.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but such roadside bombings are often claimed by the Taliban. One foreign soldier was killed and three others sustained injuries in the attack, Agha said.
