KABUL attack in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Sunday.
Militants stormed the tankers on the Kabul-Ghazni highway near the Salar Bazaar in Syedabad district on Saturday evening, burning 23 tankers, a source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said two Public Order Police personnel and a driver were killed in the attack, which left wounded a dozen others, including four security officials, as many civilians and four truckers.
Approached for comments, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani verified the incident. He said two policemen were killed and two others wounded.
A taxi driver, Abdul Karim, said the busy highway remained closed for several hours in the wake of yesterday’s attack. One cabbie was also killed, he added.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said 24 tankers were set alight and 28 security guards killed.
